Hello everyone, a quick note that the release of OryxSim Salalah is imminent. We will keep you updated in the coming hours.
Cheers,
Florian
Volcanic ash has shut down traffic all over Europe, and this also has its effects on the release of Salalah for FSX. The developer was supposed to fly out to Canada yesterday from the Netherlands but his flight like all others got cancelled. The problem is he’s doesn’t have the FSX SDK on his laptop which makes him unable to compile anything for FSX. We have to wait when operations start again- we will see what happens in the next days. We will keep you updated.

Hello Everyone,
As quite a few of you know, we are launching our first payware project in Mid-July. Arabian Airports: Muscat will be the first of a number of airports to be covered in the Middle East. There are five airports in the planning with Muscat included. We’re not gonna specify any further details as of yet.
In terms of previews, expect that it is gonna be a little while before we are going to show pictures of our upcoming scenery. As you might have noticed we didn’t show any of Salalah Airport until 5 days before release. Now, that was a bit extreme I should admit. This time we will likely start showing stuff a month in advance. You also will likely be able to pre-order your copy 2 weeks in advance. We don’t want to put a big price tag on it- we will sell it for 14.99 EUR with the five airports boxed together likely coming in at 49.99 EUR.
We will take our time for Muscat and we will go beyond Salalah and Khasab for the simple reason that this is a payware project. While Salalah and Khasab were oriented at ‘meeting the standard’, with Muscat we will seek to innovate a pull the standard higher than it already is. As developer, I got the feeling that we’re stretching FSX nearly to its limit already certainly if you look at the graphics. However, I think there is still room to improve – and we will find it.
Website
Yes, we’re running a WordPress blog. It doesn’t look very professional. We know. Therefore we are building a new website to support our further development. We will introduce this website before launching Muscat. We might revise our logo as well to fit in with the image we are trying to establish. We will keep you updated.
That’s it for now, you will likely see not a lot of activity in the next few weeks as will not make it a high speed chase to get this project done. For now, Enjoy Khasab and Salalah and we look forward to present our work again soon.

FlightSim.com got the honour to be the first to have this scenery available. The scenery is still pending with AVSIM.
Hello everyone, as Beta testing hasn’t resulted in any major problems it was decided yesterday that v1.0 is ready to go public. Please watch the FS libraries as will upload it to both FlightSim.com and Avsim.com !
Hello everyone,
Once again an update from our upcoming Salalah project. Today, I have been mainly reworking the civil apron and here are the results: this time no imageshack, so that saves some hassle. Enjoy.
That’s it for now.
All the best,
Florian
Hello Everyone,
Today I’m very pleased to share the first images of Salalah International Airport. The development has been underway since the beginning of March and has been in accelerated pace over the past week. We’re currently scheduling a release for FS2004 on April 14, a week ahead of the original schedule. The FSX release date is at this point still April 21st, due to the fact that the developer won’t be able to access a computer with FSX installed until April 16th. Meanwhile, This schedule is quite exceptional and I didn’t expect this to be the case after all. This scenery will be available for free and will be distributed through all major Flight Simulator websites. Before we jump to the screen shots, it’s time for a short geography lesson.
Most of you will probably be thinking: What? Salalah? Where on earth is that? Well, Salalah is a quite exceptional and wonderful place in southern Oman, a very peaceful country bordering Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the United Arab Emirates (That’s where Dubai is). Salalah is located in the south of Oman and receives quite a bit of tourism in the summer due to the fact it has a raining season; something very uncommon in this part of the Arabian world.Salalah has some nice resorts and is mainly served by local airlines such as Oman Air. Other regular users of the airport are Air India, Gulf Air, Saudi Arabian Airlines and Jazeera Airways. During the winter the airport sees charters arriving from as far as Northern Europe. In 2009, Salalah Airport handled 500,000 passengers. A new terminal is under way to accommodate up to 5 million passengers in the future.

OryxSim Salalah
The intention of this expansion is to give everyone a realistic rendition of Salalah International Airport, during the night and day. The only thing in the program as of right now is to include airport service vehicles. Furthermore, there are still a few things to be fixed. Please enjoy the screen shots. Descriptions are below each picture. You can click on them for full size.
Salalah Airport is a “Joint” Airport, which means that it is used both for civil and military purposes. Salalah houses a fairly large base. Due to limited information we can’t entirely be sure if this is accurate, but we try to get as close to reality as possible.
The threshold of Runway 25. The civilian apron can be found direct next to the threshold on the left side.
One of the military hangars.
The access road to the airport. It is surrounded by palm trees as in real life. The road is usually deserted, unless a flight has arrived
The Al Nahda clock tower at the round about providing access to the Airport. The clock tower is a quite well known landmark in Salalah.
Another picture of the access road.
The civilian part of the airport is quite small but functional.
Approach to Runway 07
Aircraft track down the runway when Runway 07 is in use. They use taxiways U,M and T to turn around. It also allows the runway to be temporarily vacated for incoming traffic.
OryxSim Salalah includes all custom taxi signs as well as 3d taxi lights .This gives Salalah a very unique feeling and makes it stand out against others.
Very careful attention has been paid to ground markings to let it match reality.
Another close up of the ground textures, as well as taxi signs, and lights.
Another view of the terminal. This time Airside.
Overview of the Civilian Apron.
Overview of the Military Area.
Overview of the entire Airport.
Night
Creating the night textures was very challenging, but we think we were in the end quite successful in achieving our goals.
Night view of the main terminal. Notice the difference in lighting on the different floors.
Approaching Runway 25 during the night. the Civilian Apron is on the left.
Overview of the Civilian Apron. Airside.
We have tried to make the taxi signs as realistic as possible during the night.
Overview of the threshold of Runway 07.
The road running along the airport. Also include fully custom lighting to enhance the experience.
That’s it for now. I hope you enjoyed the pictures. If you have any questions, Please feel free to ask them in the comment section or directly by e-mail at oryxsim@gmail.com .
Cheers,
Florian
Hello everyone,
As you’re probably aware, we’re currently working on Salalah International Airport. A couple of days ago, we rolled out the first pieces of the beta among our testers and we’re currently scheduling an April 21st release. Please expect some screenshots coming up within a few days when we feel confident enough to reveal it to the public. Thanks for your patience.
Just a quick note: It’s supported in the newest version of AES. Enjoy! : http://www.shop.aerosoft.com/eshop.php?action=article_detail&s_supplier_aid=10333
